Prince2: Project Plan
The Project Plan is created by the Initiating a Project Process and does the following:
- Provides the Business Case with planned project costs and it identifies the management stages and other major control points.
- It is updated at the end of each stage to show progress already made, any agreed changes in circumstances and any revised forecast of cost and duration?
- Plan of how and when a project’s objectives are to be achieved, by showing the major products, activities and resources required on the project.
- As this is a Baselined Product it used by the Project Board to monitor project progress and cost stage by stage
- Forms part of the Project Initiation Document
- This should also align with the corporate or programme management plan

- Project prerequisites
- External dependencies
- Planning assumptions
- Project-level plan:
- Diagram (Gantt or bar chart)
- Product Breakdown Structure
- Product Flow Diagrams
- Product Descriptions
- Activity network
- Financial budget
- Change budget
- Resource requirements/assignments
- Exeption plan.
The Project Plan is revised near the end of each stage to reflect updated information such as
- Actuals from the current Stage Plan.
- Any new or changed Prince2 process-tailoring requirements.
- Any changes within the PID
Elements to remember
- The Project Plan is updated in the Stage Boundary.
- The updated Project Plan is one of the source documents for the End of Project Report
