Too many companies place all their emphasis when looking at their IT infrastructure in terms of hardware and software and sometimes fail to take into account the creation of an efficient process for delivering the standard of the IT service they believe they have purchased.
There are many off the shelf products out there which can aid in delivery as well as frameworks such as ITIL and Prince2. All are there too to aid in delivering a better IT service but there is no one product that can deliver the perfect solution without a little bit of tailoring to you needs.
Some companies choose to go to outsourcing as a way to gain access to highly skilled IT professionals but they it will take time to learn and adapt to that company’s requirements and as they will only go as far as what is contractually required they are unlikely to adapt to the company but have the company adapt to them.
As we are all aware IT is an acronym for Information Security yet the common issue is that too many people think of the information part as solely as databases and documents stored on computers rather than being the process of being effective.
Before any decision can be made we must first understand our businesses processes so we can manage the risk.
