PRINCE2 2009 Study Notes
First of all, this section is my on going study notes. This is not a commercial website, but a place for me to place my ideas down. Day by day I am adding more and more to it, it is an on-going process, so anyone reading this please be aware of this.
I found it hard to pass the PRINCE2 2009 Practitioner exam failing to complete the Practitioner exam within the specified time, I missed out by only one point. So close and yet so far. So why did I fail?
It was quite simple, I just ran out of time. Although this is an open book exam, but it comes down to one thing, if you have to go to the book to check whether what you feel is correct on everything, time is going to run out as it did for me. So as part of my study process I am going to gather Prince2 knowledge into one place and on the way, embeding this knowledge in such a way I will stand a improve my chance of passing the exam. Hopefully it will provide a resource for other people who are planning to take the Prince2 2009 Practitioner exam. Everything here is work in progress, so if there are bits missing it is down to the fact that I haven't had time to do it yet, but I will; just give me time.
One of the things that comes to mind while working on projects is like the PRINCE2 exam is that everything has to be completed within a scheduled time. To do this there has to be a lot of compromise and tailoring to make it work. This means that unfortunately in a lot of companies essential products have not had sufficient quality control. Often I have heard it said "We just need to finish the project on time, we can fix it later". I am suprised that they are allowed to hand over a product that does not completely work!
The other is that so many projects struggle to succeed because the Project Manager's either don't understand the processes involved in what they what to deliver or they have not created an indepth product breakdown chart.
So for those who don't know. What is PRINCE2?
It is a process-based approach for project management. It has seven processes comprise a set of activities, which may be run in series or in parallel. The activities comprise a set of recommended actions, designed to achieve a particular result from project start up, through the intermediate stages, to project closure.
PRINCE2 divides projects into the following:
Processes |
|
Themes |
|
Principles |
So where do we start?
You could start anywhere if you are just learning about PRINCE2, but I am starting where I feel it begins, which is a project Mandate has been given and you start up the project
